Our People
Each and every Norstar employee, many of whom have been with us since we first opened in 1988, is valued for the unique experience and skills that they contribute. Some of us have had extensive careers in the Canadian meat packing industry, while others come with years of flexible packaging experience in the Canadian industry (something to this effect). By combining the strengths of both, we have created a special group of individuals who are not just co-workers but a team (we actually like to refer to ourselves as a tribe!) that support each other, just as we support our customers and markets, with strength and loyalty.
We have monthly special event lunches for our staff, with such varied themes as Prestley and Puccini, John Lennon or John Candy; we might be tracking the fall migration of Monarch butterflies, or remembering and honouring the lives of Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, or even Muhammed Ali. If you drop by our Toronto office at any time, you might find us commemorating significant events, either historical or personal, eating together and celebrating personal accomplishments or discussing current events. We also celebrate a collective staff birthday party every year on April 1st (or, of course the closest working day to it).
Additionally, we have hosted some major Open House events, usually held on the Thursday evening closest to June 21st (the first day of summer). We take this opportunity to celebrate and support various charities or worthwhile causes, such as the building and ongoing maintenance of The Juno Beach Memorial, which commemorates the D-Day landing at Courseuille-sur-Mer in Normandy, France. Other causes we've supported include the Daily Bread Food Bank, the Salvation Army, the Yonge Street Mission, Covenant House and Jessie's Center, the Ikono General Hospital Project in Nigeria, and the St. Mark's Mzuzu AIDS Orphanage in Malawi. Currently, we are eagerly looking forward to our 2010 Open House, which will raise funds for the building of a new Woodland Cultural Centre at the Six Nations in Brantford, Ontario.
